Avoid The Cult of Safety

The Witches’ Sabbath (1789) by Francisco Goya
Goya presents a chilling scene of witches and their grotesque rituals, a stark commentary on the irrational fears and superstitions of his time. It’s a depiction of societal paranoia and the desire for control. By portraying the perceived chaos of witchcraft, Goya critiques the human tendency to cling to comfort through scapegoating and rigid norms, avoiding the discomfort of confronting deeper societal issues. The sinister gathering represents the dangers of forsaking personal agency for the illusion of security.

Bold Prayer for Avoiding The Cult of Safety

God, I confess that I have allowed fear and caution to shape my decisions more than Your Spirit’s guidance. I am fully aware of how often I’ve clung to safety and comfort instead of stepping out boldly in faith.

Lord, I declare that You alone are my refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust. In Jesus’ name, I break the the idol of safety in my life. Replace my fears with a faith so strong that I willingly step into the unknown. You are with me every step of the way. Remind me that true security is found not in earthly comforts, but in following You.

Empower me to walk in boldness and courage. Let me be willing to risk discomfort, failure, or rejection if it means glorifying Your name and advancing Your kingdom. I trust that Your plans are good, even when the path is unclear. Give me the peace to rest in Your sovereignty.

Lord, I surrender my fears to You and ask for the strength to walk by faith, not by sight. May my life be a testimony of obedience and trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Read the Verses:

Psalm 27:1 (NIV): “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” You are reminded that God is your protector and source of strength. There is no need to fear when you rely on Him as your stronghold.

Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” You are called to be strong and courageous, assured that God’s presence is with you in every challenge and opportunity.

Hebrews 11:8: “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” You are inspired by Abraham’s faith to act in obedience, trusting God’s promises even without knowing the full plan.
